Happy winter everyone!  I guess there is no longer any doubt whether or not it gets cold and snows in Minnesota.  I have a few things to pass on to everyone.

1.   We now have a local AOG Chapter web site.  Pat O’Reilly has been putting it together for us.  This should help out the communication flow and provide local area grads with a simple means of updating email addresses etc when they change.  Check it out at http://usafa_twin_cities.home.att.net.  It also provides some handy links.

2.   The next Twin Cities Service Academy Networking Breakfast will be this Friday Feb 6. The location is still the Holiday Inn just northwest of the intersection of HWY 169 and I-394 in Saint Louis Park. For directions, please go to http://go.vicinity.com/sixcont/bidMap.d?BID=SPKMN&brandname=_holidayinn.  If you are interested in attending or learning more about the breakfast, me.  Vic Ames, the Army contact and POC will be moving on soon and I’ll have more news on who is taking over the reins later.  An RSVP is not required to attend, if you could RSVP by COB Thursday the day prior, it is appreciated in order to prepare a roster of those attending.  Feel free to pass on to other Grads in the area or call classmates or other Grads to meet for breakfast.

3.   This is short notice, but I got an email from Steve Finch ‘67 concerning a proposal to be presented at the upcoming USAFA AOG Board of Director meeting on Feb 7.  It concerns “Returning the AOG Board of Directors to a Board Competitively Elected by the Members of the Association of Graduates.”  I’ve attached the proposal below.  I will also cut and paste the original email below my signature block.  If you have questions about this proposal or would like more information on it, you can email Steve at Steve_Finch@att.net.

4.   That’s about it for now.  Keep warm...Jeff Shields ‘79, email guy.

NOTICE TO ALL USAFA GRADUATES

It’s been a rough year for USAFA, it’s Graduates and Cadets.  Graduates of USAFA have been forced to be spectators to the process of change and have been without an effective voice.  The current AOG structure is not responsive to, or representative of, the 34,000 living graduates of our school.   It’s time to change that.

On February 7th, the AOG Board of Directors will meet to deliberate important changes in the structure of the AOG.  Specifically, the Board will consider changing the AOG Bylaws to provide for free and democratic election of Board members.  This is the all-important first step to giving all USAFA graduates a loud and resounding voice in the affairs of the AOG and USAFA.

As with all democratic processes, the squeaky wheel gets the grease.  Help us with your voice.  Email the Board.  Tell your classmates.  Do it fast. Most of the Board’s email addresses are shown here:

Dear Board Member

With the knowledge that the Board will meet on February 7th, I would like to respectfully request that the following items be put on the agenda for that meeting:

1.   Immediate change in the By Laws to provide for a totally open nomination/election process for Board members.  This should include an opportunity for nominees to openly state their positions on Academy/AOG issues.

2.   Free and open dialogue for grads in Checkpoints, and a forum on the AOG web site where grads can make their voices heard.

3.   Completely open financial records.

4.   Publishing Board meeting minutes to the graduate community through the use of Checkpoints and the AOG web site.

Thank you for your consideration of my request.

Respectfully,
